Let us get something straight.

The Emo genre, (You know it is a fad, a fashion and naught more then such...baseless fashion statements do not suit thee...) in our society is a fashion imperative. To put upon the general standards of melancholy and depression as attributed by common social definition, in order to portray a certain style, while being completely ignorant of the true concept and circumstances of suicidal tendencies and depression is nothing but a childish call for attention.

When you are depressed, for one, you do not care what you look like.

You always care what you look like, even if it is nothing but scraggly hair and worn out sweaters.

It is really nothing but duplicating something as one sees it, whatever the taste and social acceptance of such a prospect may be. Auto mutilation, and letting everyone know you have it is proof of such indeed.

Tell them...Emos may do what they do for a reason...they want some help to. But they all fake it, and know nothing of the true magnitude which life can dish to someone.

Cloud has been through many hardships and ordeals, weather or not some of them were wraught by his own hand... For one, he was afflicted with personality disassociation, infused with Mako energy which, as had been the cause with Sephiroth (But it was not the same with Sephiroth.) does not do a thing to better his already innate mental problems, he has lost one whom we may perceive as a lover, and was faced with inevitable and seemingly destined inevitability and futility-or so he believed.

Therefore, if we take Advent Children into consideration as a true link to Cloud and his life, he is allowed some respite, and some time to huddle in a corner. He is human after all...
For all that he had gone through, he was doing relatively well. I do not believe, even though this is far from being anything near realism, that many other people would have done much better. Even Sephiroth was worse.

If anything, Cloud is more of a badass then an Emo, even if such is used to merely cover his sensitivity and weaknesses, or what he may perceive as such. It shows that Emos are naught but a genre...Cloud was not trying to blatantly present this to anyone.
Granted, 'tis be as childish, to regress one's emotions and make everyone worry about you by using convixtion that one is always fine, however such is not being an Emo. It is in fact quite the contrary.

If anything, Squall is the ''Emo''.
