Default Breathe Among the Leaves

This is a story I started writing, but I haven't had time to add on. I will be adding on as soon as possible, but since I have TONS of school work, I make no promises.

Here is the first Chapter...

(Just to mention, when you see the name Sora, this is NO CONNECTION to Kingdom Hearts)(Also, this is not edited by me. There is no grammer check on my Open Office, and very little spell check.)(Nothing to do with Fantasy, just War)

“Alpha Team, we are ten minutes from your destination. Suit up!”

The date was October 12, 2018. Four men sat in the back of a crowded cargo plane awaiting the green light to parachute. This was a Seal team awaiting their mission, sitting patiently, and not moving except to collect their gear. There was the leader, Sora Murray, who had the physique of a body builder and the eye of an eagle. The men to his left were Tristan and Rhett Cotten. These two brothers were one of the best snipers ever taken from the military. The older one, Tristan, only out aged his brother by five years and seemed to be his protection. Neither one was good without the other so they both were awarded into the Seals not two weeks earlier.

This was their first real mission. Finally, there was Oscar Johnson. He was the muscle of the group. Once he lifted a solid military jeep off the ground! Together these men formed Alpha Team, a group of United States Navy Seals that had a secret mission in the high forest of Germany. Their objective, to collect enemy Intel from a hidden base and send that information to a group of hidden American soldiers south of their position. The Cargo Plane they were in was cleared to secretly drop these men into the dense forest within a days walk from the base. Suddenly, a red light started flashing in the cargo bay where these men were.

“Alpha Team, we are one minute from your destination. Stand by for rear hatch release.”

The room filled with light as the back door rattled and cranked to open, showing off the beautiful sun and the snow filled grounds below. There was quite a bit of wind 35,000 feet up in the air. The men stood together, their breather masks secured and hands grasped to the security rope. The red light quickly changed to green as the pilot spoke into the speakers “Alpha Team, you are cleared for HALO. Repeat, Alpha Team, you are cleared for HALO.” The men at once started for the back door, each preparing for this dive. Then, as graceful as a dove, each man jumped from the plane and went into a strait nosedive towards the frozen ground. They spun together going faster and faster until they seemed to become bullets, creating a blur in the sky.

A mere 1,000 feet from the ground, they each pulled their rip cords, slowing their descent dramatically. Finally each dropped into the soft snow of the Dragovian Forest. Almost instantly, they each dropped into the snow as if shot by a hidden enemy and presumed dead. The forest was silent. Not even a bird could be heard. Tristan could see a fox running along an old trail in the forest, Oscar could make out a snowy owl asleep on a branch. Then Sora climbed up and signaled to the other that it was safe to talk within a normal voice.

Sora got up from the ground and collected his sniper rifle from his back satchel. The other men stood next to each other and spoke among themselves. Sora yelped to the men to check their guns and to remove their parachutes. Each did what was ordered to them. Sora stood in front of his men.

“Well, men, we need to start this mission with our names. I will be Jester.”

Next he pointed to Tristan, “You are Cobra.”

Then to Rhett, “You are Vader.

Finally to Oscar, “You are Viper.”

“O.K, men, we should set up a camp for the night. We also need to set up a perimeter around the camp. Viper, Vader, go and secure the area. Cobra and I will set the camp up. Don’t forget men, we’re here for only seven days. We need to complete our mission, anyone wish to recap?”

Cobra stepped forward and began to chant, “Our mission is to collect enemy intel and any information regarding the hidden enemy base located twenty miles from our current position. This intel is to be sent to the hidden troops located around one-hundred miles to the south.”

“Correct. O.K, get to your jobs everyone.”

The rest of the day came and went and the night came soon after. The next morning was met will a chilling, burning cold. There was a fresh layer of snow and the morning was clear. But none seemed to be around. There was no movement; there were no tents, lights, or fires going. Twelve miles up a trail; there were four mounds in the snow. If you looked closely, you could barely see one inching forward. Upon closer inspection, you could tell there were the barrels of sniper rifles pointing forward. Earlier that morning, there were footsteps coming nearer and nearer to their camp. The team had to make a quick escape in the snow, and since then, about twelve hours, they have been inching towards a safe area to take a rest. There seemed not to be anyone in this area so very slowly, each man began to come from the ground until they began to walk together. When they knew that there were no other people, they started to talk among themselves.

“Hey Tristan, what do you think the base is going to be like, I hope there are…”

“Shhh! My name is Cobra! You do not give away my identity!”

“Chill, nobody’s around to hear,” spoke Viper.

“Men, don’t let your guard down! Remember, we’re still in a mission.”

“Hey, we’re just talking. Don’t worry, we’ll watch your ***,” spoke Cobra.

“Watch it, Cobra, I may not be such a good shot when it comes to protecting you.”

Vader started to snigger, but the other didn’t laugh.

“Yo, don’t even joke about that!”

“Well don’t be smart with me and maybe my aim will come back to me when you need it. Now, we need to get back to the mission, we still have… Drop down, now!
Everyone dropped at the same time, grasping their gun forward ready to aim.

“There are two, at 1:30, looks like a patrol.”

“Yea, I seem’em,” said Viper. “Looks like they’re carrying AK-47’s, two grenades, one has a radio. We need clean shots.”

“I see; I’ve got the left,” said Cobra.

“I’ve got the right,” said Vader.

The entire area quickly went silent and cold. Nothing moved. Only the barrels of the two snipers could barely been seen, each pointing to the right, aiming at two faint, white dots around a mile away. Then, as if God himself struck each of the dots, they fell to the ground as a quick flash from the barrels launched two silver bullets, mere centimeters from each other, to their targets. The men got back up from the ground.

“Cobra, Vader, go collect what gear you can. Viper and I will go and hide the bodies and “borrow” the radio.”

The men stealthily ran to the bodies. When there, they immediately took the weapons and ammo and grabbed the radio. Jester grabbed it from them and placed it in his satchel. Once the bodies were sucked dry of all their resources, the men began to dig a hole to bury them in. Once buried, the men continued on their journey until they needed to rest. A mere five miles from their destination, they again began to set up camp and secure the area. To make sure they wouldn’t have any more unwelcome guests, each man took turns during the night to take watch. Each man took hold of their rifles and stood still as if they were made of rock, unable to move either for the freezing cold or devotion to duty. The night went on with no disturbances.

The morning was quite different from the last two. There was a thick fog that rolled in from the west, making any form of sight more than five feet impossible. Once the tents were placed back in the satchel, the team went forward with great caution, since not being able to see mixed with being this close to their destination point was not a good combination. The fog finally started to lift, and at the right time to. Jester spoke to his men with a sudden breathe.

“O.K, there is no turning back. Today we will complete our mission. We don’t know what could be there, but we must have certain rules in place. Unless ordered by me myself, no one is to go within one hundred feet of the base. One we get five hundred feet, all will remain low no matter what the situation. Do not take a shot unless ordered. We do not split up unless ordered. Everyone clear?”

“Yes, sir,” the men said in unison.

Finally, the men inched forward until Jester said down. He had had the first glimpse of the base.

“Seems medium large, not much bigger than a football field. We should come a little closer and stay in this position. Don’t forget, those are the enemy. They will try to kill you if you give them the chance. And don’t forget our mission, to collect Intel. O.K, move in, keep low, and shut up.”

The men took a minute to blend into the ground and slowly moved forward. Ten minutes later, they were around one hundred feet from the base. It could be clearly seen from their position. There were a few trucks, one tank, around one hundred soldiers, a dozen barracks, and one central building, which seemed to be the headquarters. The men huddled there for at least an hour or two, Jester with a high quality microphone listening on every conversation and anything that could give him any information. He had so far collected some important names, a few radio frequencies, and some Intel here and there. The hours went by until finally, there was night.
