Square Enix should clear this up. Instead they have the habit of changing her name at the drop of a hat. Both names are wried and this whole name confusion is even more confusing. If only video game characters could answer questions for us then she could tell us the proper way to say her name.

is supposed to be forgotten or something like that she is known as mother in the movie..werid but thats the way they wanted it

okay new thing I don't think I've mentioned;
When they write her name in Japan the way we do (not japanese letters), they write it 'Aerith'. In which I've figured when I bought this potion+figure thing that comes straight from japan, on the box there's a picture of all the figures with their name underneath, under the picture of Aerith, it's clearly written 'Aerith Gainsborough'.
In which, I think, proves that at least in Japan her name is 'Aerith', and I'd say Aeris was just a mistake, especially since they managed to write Clouds birthday wrong aswell. :P

For the KH universe, i use Aerith

I personally prefer Aeris.
I also think Aeris and Sephiroth make a wonderful couple - as long as it is written right

Anyone can write the obvious Pairings - Aeris/Cloud, Tifa/Cloud, Vicent/Lucrecia Vincent/Yuffie. It takes real writers-skills to write the more unusual pairings and make them decent stories. Pairings such as Aeris/Seph, Tifa/Seph, Vincent/Tifa.

I've done some research on this so READ THIS! lol

Aerith's original Japanese name is エアリス (Earisu) [eaɺ̠is(ɯ)] l This has been transliterated to "Aeris" in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Tactics, but later as "Aerith". Both transliterations have basis, as the Japanese "su" (ス) is used when transcribing "s" (/s/) and "th" (/θ/) to Japanese. However, official Japanese materials were using the spelling "Aerith", and developers have stated that the name in roman alphabet was (almost) an anagram of the English word "Earth", thus confirming that the intended spelling was indeed "Aerith".
