The Spirit Statistic.
It has occurred to me that, the Spirit parameter in Final Fantasy VII is buggered. While it governs the character's initial defense against magic attacks, any pieces of armour, or funky and shiny bracelets if you will, as well as accessories which include magic protection or Spirit statistical enhancements do not figure.
So this means that whichever magic defense bonuses one may find on an equippable is not added to your overall statistics, which makes this useless. Our defense against the likes of Meteor and Firaga solely depends on the initial Spirit statistic itself, as it, like Magic Defense and Magic Defense % (Which are merely divided parts of Spirit to begin with-its offspring, if you shall.) do not seem to notice and accept auxiliary boosts and bonuses aside from what we get for leveling up.
What does this say for special attacks which are not considered as standard magic, such as gunfire and the like? Is that transferred to physical defense? I do not know if ''Magic Defense'' merely applies for typical magic like Fire or Ice, or if it includes such special attacks as ''Suicide Drop'' and the like.
And what about materia that may boost your magic defense, or rather modify the statistics with their usual double edged sword concept; are these ''bonuses'' just as rendered nullified by the programming bug as the boosts meant to be handed by equipment?
I must say, I am quite bamboozled by this entire statistical shenanigan...argh.
Some clarification, perhaps?
